Soldier from Operation Sentinelle stabbed at Gare de l’Est in Paris, suspect arrested

A soldier from Operation Sentinelle was stabbed while patrolling the Gare de l’Est in Paris, announced Gérald Damarnin on Monday July 15 on X. “His life is not in danger.”said the Interior Minister, specifying that a suspect “was arrested”. The soldier was injured in the shoulder, a police source told franceinfo.

The suspect in the knife attack was already known for murder in a case dating back to 2018, franceinfo learned from a police source. This 40-year-old man had been placed in the psychiatric infirmary of the Paris police headquarters. Still according to a police source, the man “said he was a Christian and would have shouted ‘God is big'” during the attack and claims to have acted “because the military is killing people in his country”Born in the Republic of Congo, the arrested man is French, the police source said.
