Solar storm will help create northern lights in Canada on Saturday

An imposing solar storm, present since Thursday, should approach Earth on Saturday, and by the same token, offer favorable conditions for the formation of northern lights during the evening.

The Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), issued a G3 geomagnetic activity warning out of a possible five. Such a level of activity is enough to qualify this stormy storm, usually very conducive to several Northern Lights.

The celestial spectacle will be at its maximum capacity in the American Midwest and southern Washington state, where geomagnetic activity will be greatest, mild weather and clear skies. Elsewhere in Canada, Alberta is expected to have similar weather conditions, according to Environment Canada.

In Quebec, due to the significant cloud cover, few regions will have the chance to see the phenomenon. However, people from the Gaspé tip, the Côte-Nord and the Magdalen Islands, could have the chance to observe the show between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., according to Meteorologist Bertin Ossonon of MétéoMédia, in a place obviously free from light pollution.
