A sixth film in the cult series The Boys could see the light of day. At least, the Society for the Development of Cultural Enterprises (SODEC) agreed to contribute financially to the writing of its script, as well as that of several other feature-length fiction films and nine documentaries tackling various subjects.
The Boys – So be itdirected by Richard Goudreau and Cathleen Rouleau, is part of the list of 21 projects for which SODEC, a Quebec state corporation, announced Monday that it had granted financing, paving the way for a sixth film in the legendary series of sports comedies which has enjoyed enormous success in Quebec since its beginnings in 1997. The last film in this series, Once upon a time there were the Boysdirected by Richard Goudreau, was released in 2013. The brand has since been taken over by the company ComediHa!, in 2020.
A film on female sexuality directed by Isabelle Monette and called The beast was also selected, as were seven other feature-length fiction films. After turning his relationship with his transgender father into a play called Trans girlscreenwriter Marie-Claude D’Aoust also obtained support from SODEC in order to transpose this project to the big screen.
Among the documentaries, Embrace impermanence, by Sylvie Van Brabant, was selected by SODEC. Franco-Albertan of origin, the screenwriter, who lives in Quebec, has produced several committed documentaries over the years, notably addressing the conditions of childbirth in Quebec in the 1980s, the overconsumption of medications among the elderly and the protection of the environment. The theme of this new documentary remains unknown to the general public for the moment.
Mathieu Fournier, for his part, was selected by SODEC for his project to make a documentary on the Ontario-born engineer Gerald Bull, a controversial figure considered to be an important inventor of ballistic equipment who became an arms dealer, before being assassinated in 1990. The screenwriter is notably at the origin of the documentary In the shadow of the Starwars Kidaddressing the repercussions of a video that went viral in 2003 and which changed the life of a young Trois-Rivières resident.
