Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers | Usher and Victoria Monét receive an award

(Los Angeles) Usher will add another prestigious award to his already rich trophy haul.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) announced Thursday that Usher would receive its Voice of the Culture award. He will be honored at an ASCAP event on June 27.

The award Usher receives is given to ASCAP members who have had a major influence on music and culture.

The great R&B star is an eight-time Grammy winner and recently completed a two-year residency in Las Vegas. In February, Usher released his first solo album in eight years, and in August he is set to launch a 24-city U.S. tour titled Past Present Future.

Usher’s Super Bowl halftime performance was praised and included appearances from stars such as Alicia Keys, HE R., Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon and Ludacris. His album Confessions has sold over 10 million copies in the United States, ranking it among the best-selling musical projects of all time.

He launched hits such as Yeah! with Ludacris and Lil Jon, Burn And Confessions Part II.

“It means the world to me that my peers, this passionate and distinguished community of songwriters, are inspired by my execution of the craft,” Usher said.

Singer Victoria Monét will also be in the spotlight. She will receive the Vanguard Award, which recognizes members who help shape the future of music.

Monét won three Grammys earlier this year, including Best New Artist and Best R&B Album for Jaguar II.
