The debate about the alliance with La France insoumise (LFI) divides within the Socialist Party (PS). The reactions of party figures are as lively as they are contrasting.

Because of the agreement with La France insoumise (LFI) for the legislative elections, the Socialist Party (PS) is on the verge of explosion. Thursday, May 5, the executives of the PS are meeting in the national council to ratify, or not, the agreement with LFI. Two major elected socialists, the president of the Occitanie region, Carole Delga, and the mayor of Montpellier (Hérault), Michaël Delafosse, even displayed themselves alongside the candidate they will support against the future candidate of the united left.

No question for them to endorse this agreement, which they consider unnatural. “Doing politics means having a project, not falling into electoral tampering to please a few friends or girlfriends”, says Carole Delga. Other socialist elected officials opposed the agreement, such as Stéphane Le Foll, mayor of Le Mans (Pays de la Loire), former Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve or former President of the Republic François Hollande. The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, criticizes the agreement, but she does not wish to prevent it. Most socialist mayors of big cities support him, like Martine Aubry, mayor of Lille (North).
