Social networks are weapons of mass destruction

Having become addicted to these social networks which extract us from the depths of anonymity, we have become objects.

Permanently exhibited behind a huge global display case.

All of these networks form a sprawling monster fed daily by our stories and our images.

We forget that the fierce beast can devour us.

These echo chambers made us little kings.

Paragons of narcissism who watch each other think and listen to each other utter gall.

Stars of the tablet, keyboard virtuosos, masters of the emoji, we are the holders of universal knowledge.

Omniscient, we give our opinion on everything and have answers to all questions.

Behind the screen, we shamelessly use insults and threats. It doesn’t matter if they wound mortally, the knives fly low.

Public figures are no exception

A FB status here and a little video there…

Public figures attract the light and like Narcissus, they admire the reflection of their image…

But they put themselves in a lark’s mirror.

The trapdoor opens, the trap closes.

We’ve seen several fall for the clip too many, the gag that doesn’t work, the statement that kills…

These networks which only yesterday were polishing your star are suddenly putting your life and your career through the crusher.

The party is over, we’re closing!

Goodbye advertising, cinema, TV contracts, etc.

The recent setbacks of Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge should encourage us to scrutinize everything we publish online.

How many have fallen from grace because they failed to appreciate the weight of words or an image?

Is the use of social media essential to the careers of public figures?

It might be wise to have a contact person who can manage their various user accounts.

This would save them from the public trials and lynching sessions dear to many Internet users.
