In terms of social diversity at school, France is in the lead according to several specialized studies in the sector. Why this finding? And what more can the Ministry of National Education do? This is the subject of the Talk. Every evening, from 6 p.m., Manon Mella and her guests debate with Internet users on the franceinfo Twitch channel.

Regularly announced as one of the priorities of the Ministry of National Education, social diversity at school struggles to translate into effective public policy on a national scale. According to the OECD’s PISA surveys, France is one of the countries where the social origin of students weighs the most on their success at school. The public welcomes a large proportion of pupils from underprivileged backgrounds when, conversely, the private sector educates more very privileged children. An equality of opportunity which is therefore difficult to become commonplace. Why this finding? What would be the solutions and actions to be implemented?

To talk about it, Manon Mella receives Alexandra NizakPresident of the “Learning Together” Collective, and Elise Huilleryprofessor of economics at Paris-Dauphine University, and member of the Scientific Council for National Education.

Objectives set to strengthen diversity

The Minister of National Education, Pap Ndiaye, received the rectors and academic directors responsible for implementing education policy in the French departments, to talk about strengthening social diversity at school. The Minister would like to include more private education under contract in the equation, as well as the presence of scholarship students in private establishments. It has set the goal of reducing “the differences in social recruitment between establishments by 20%” by 2023.

Join us from 6 p.m. Monday to Friday on the franceinfo Twitch channel to participate in Manon Mella’s Talk. An hour of exchange, clarification, and debate around topical and social issues.
