Guadeloupe is sinking into the crisis. The territory remains globally paralyzed on this eleventh day of the strike. The protest movement against the vaccine obligation is now crystallizing around other social and economic demands.
In Guadeloupe, near one of the most hermetic dams on the island, only a few demonstrators agree to speak. They hold this barricade day and night and do not intend to give up. Behind this anger, a generalized deviance towards the French authorities rooted in many Guadeloupeans, since the chlordecone affair: this pesticide has poisoned the Lesser Antilles. “My heritage from France is prostate cancer which is looming over me in the next few decades”, estimates a thirty-something. While the State has recognized some responsibility, it has still not paid the compensation requested.
The water cuts are constant and poison the daily life of the inhabitants. Many have cisterns, often bought with their savings. Many are fed up with this situation. All of these unresolved problems for years explain why the social conflict in Guadeloupe lasts and seems today to be deadlocked.
