Two historic clubs are playing their future this Tuesday before the DNCG (National Management Control Department), the financial policeman of French football. FC Sochaux-Montbéliard and AS Nancy-Lorraine, both administratively relegated in recent weeks to National and National 3, the third and fifth French divisions, will be heard on appeal on Tuesday by the club management control body. French.

In Sochaux, the employees were informed on Monday that the shareholders could not provide the 8 million euros which would allow the club to be drafted, according to information from France Bleu Belfort-Montbéliard. The DNCG will therefore logically reject the FCSM’s appeal on Tuesday and confirm its demotion to National, which could then be weighed down by at least a new administrative demotion to National 3 and a bankruptcy filing if no buyer is able to redeem the club’s debt.

The shareholders of ASNL still intend on their side to have the decision to demote to National 3 canceled, and even to be drafted to National, in favor of other administrative relegations from other clubs. Sources inside the club still believed in a scenario of this type several days ago, according to France Bleu Sud Lorraine. The supporters no longer believe in it after several broken promises from shareholders in recent months.

Other historical clubs already sanctioned

Sochaux and Nancy are two monuments of French football. The FCSM was still playing in Ligue 1 nine years ago. Winner of the Coupe de France in 2007 and the Coupe de la Ligue in 2004, the club had also won two French championships in the 1930s. ASNL has been plunged into an endless descent into hell since its descent into L2 in 2017. The club that launched a certain Michel Platini in the 1970s won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2006 and finished 4th in L1 in 2008.

In recent weeks, the DNCG has been particularly intransigent with the mismanagement of French clubs. CS Sedan Ardennes and ASJ Soyaux, a pioneer in women’s football, are currently excluded from all national championships. Châteauroux was also relegated to National 2 before being kept in National on appeal. Also under threat, the Girondins de Bordeaux will finally be able to return to L2 thanks to a loan of 40 million euros. Finally, Olympique Lyonnais, an L1 club, was sanctioned by the DNCG with “supervision of the wage bill and transfer allowances”.
