Soccer | Heartbreaking defeat for the Canadians

The incredible run of the Canadian women’s soccer team is over. They were defeated by the Germans in a penalty shootout after a scoreless match.

In the shootout, Germany managed to score four goals, while Canada only scored two.

The Germans dominated possession in the first half, with 56%. However, they only had one shot on target.

The tide turned in the second half. Possession was played evenly, but the Canadians had most of the scoring chances. They shot 11 times, getting their shots on target four times.

The Unifolié’s offensive efforts continued during the two overtime periods. Nine shots were attempted, but none of them hit the mark.

The Canadians won all of their qualifying matches. The feat was necessary to allow the team to participate in these quarterfinals, since FIFA removed six points from the standings in response to the spying scandal on opposing teams.

They defeated the Colombians by a narrow 1-0 on Wednesday. They also beat the French and New Zealanders, winning both games 2-1.

The Canadian women won the gold medal at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The semi-finals of the tournament will take place on Tuesday.
