Olympic champions, the Canadians find themselves in group A with France, ranked third, Colombia, 23eand New Zealand, 28eat the Olympic soccer tournament which will take place in Paris this summer.
The 12-team competition will take place from July 25 to August 10.
Canada, ranked ninth, has been on the podium at the last three Olympics, winning gold in Tokyo under Bev Priestman and bronze in Rio and London, with John Herdman at the helm.
Group B includes the United States (4e), Germany (5e), Australia (12e) and Morocco (58e) or Zambia (65e).
Group C is made up of favorites from Spain, Japan (7e), Brazil (10e) and Nigeria (36e) or South Africa (51e).
The African teams will be determined in the final round of qualifying, from 1er to April 9.
France will face Colombia in the opening match.
The two best teams from each of the three groups, as well as the two best third-placed teams, advance to the quarter-finals.
The draw took place in the suburbs of Saint-Denis with former Canadian goalkeeper Stéphanie Labbé, one of the heroines of the Tokyo Games, and former Ivorian star Didier Drogba serving as draw assistants, on the female side.
For the men (16 teams), Group A is made up of France, the United States, the winner of the Asia-Africa qualifiers and New Zealand.
Argentina, Morocco, Asian qualifier No. 3 and Ukraine are in Group B while Asian qualifier No. 2, Spain, Egypt and the Dominican Republic make up Group C.
Group D includes Asian qualifier No. 1 Paraguay, Mali and Israel.
The competing Asian countries will be determined at the Asian Cup in May.
The men’s opening match will pit France against the United States.
Canadians have not qualified for the Olympic soccer tournament since 1984.
Men’s teams at the Olympics are limited to players under the age of 23 with a maximum of three older players. There are no age restrictions for women.
