Quebecers must get out shovels and snowblowers, now that winter is setting in for real with the first big snowfall affecting most of the province on Friday, which will be entitled to a white Christmas.
The storm will affect virtually all of Quebec over the weekend with accumulations of 15 to 20 centimeters of snow by Saturday in Greater Montreal and central areas of the province.
“A depression moving up the US east coast will bring snow starting this morning and will give total accumulations of 15 to 25 centimeters until Saturday afternoon,” Environment Canada said on its website.
The low pressure system which will first affect western and southern Quebec will make the return rush hour in Montreal difficult on the roads, prompting the federal agency to call for more caution.
The mercury, which will drop over the next few days, will prevent the snow from melting, which will allow the white carpet to remain until the end of the year holidays, to the great joy of outdoor activity enthusiasts.
In doing so, despite the cold weather in December, skiers and snowboarders will be able to take advantage of the snow covering the slopes to try out their winter sports equipment while slaloming to their heart’s content like Olympic champions.
