Snowstorm in the St. Lawrence Valley

A low pressure system combined with a cold wave crossing Quebec will bring a snowfall with accumulations of 10 to 20 centimeters along the St. Lawrence River by Friday.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement (BMS) for areas of the St. Lawrence River Valley.

The BMS concerns the sectors from Gatineau and Lachute to Quebec, including Montérégie, Estrie and Beauce.

The snow will intensify on Thursday evening and continue Friday, according to forecasts from the federal agency.

In Montreal, 10 to 20 centimeters are expected by Friday, as temperatures drop to around -11 degrees.

Similar conditions will prevail in Quebec, while areas further north are affected by an extreme cold warning.

In Estrie, there will probably be more accumulations during the same period, while a rainy episode is expected for Thursday morning.
