Snowstorm: difficult rush hour in Greater Montreal

Thursday’s rush hour will be particularly difficult in Greater Montreal due to a heavy snowfall supported by strong winds causing blowing snow.

Snow accumulations could reach 10 centimeters on the ground in southwestern Quebec, or even 20 centimeters in the border areas of the United States by Friday morning.

The road could become slippery and visibility greatly reduced in the Montreal, Montérégie and Laval sectors, according to Environment Canada forecasts.

“The combination of snow and strong winds will cause widespread blowing snow, greatly reducing visibility in these areas from Thursday morning,” the federal agency anticipated.

Strong winds will also sweep all sectors of the river valley as well as the Capitale-Nationale with gusts of up to 60 km/h during the day Thursday.

Elsewhere in Quebec, the federal agency forecasts a little snow in the center of the province, particularly in Estrie, and an alternation of sun and clouds, particularly in the east.

In terms of temperatures, it will be cold almost everywhere with -12 degrees in Montreal and -15 degrees in Quebec, while the extreme cold warning is still in effect in the north.
