Laurie Blouin ended her season in style by winning the silver medal in the acrobatic descent (slopestyle) on Sunday at the Silvaplana World Cup in Switzerland.

The Quebecer first collected 82.40 points to take the second provisional rank after her first run. She then saw Austrian point guard Anna Gasser improve her own mark to cement her lead with 95.50 points on the second try.

Blouin therefore put all the gum to try to surpass her rival. Despite a faultless run, she came in just short, earning 90.20 points from the judges.

“I feel really good! Every meet I give it my all and I managed to land a big maneuver with two 900s in a row with an 1800. I hadn’t done that yet. It ends my season very well,” Blouin told Sportcom a few hours after the race.

The snowboarder from Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury then remained at the bottom of the track to watch the last competitor, the Japanese Kokomo Murase, descend the track. The latter finally completed the podium with a score of 87.20.

The only other Canadian in the women’s final, Jasmine Baird placed seventh with 52 points.

At the same time, Laurie Blouin finished the campaign in second place in the cumulative ranking of the Freestyle World Cup with 240 points. Murase finished first by virtue of his 320 points.

“I’m really happy, I didn’t really expect it because I missed a few competitions after the Olympics to take some rest. It’s a very big positive point in my season,” rejoiced Blouin.

Throughout the season, the 25-year-old athlete wanted to promote his sport. She believes that with the success they and her rivals have had during the campaign, including at the Olympics, women’s snowboarding is headed in the right direction.

“It doesn’t happen in a snap, but we always want to put women’s slopestyle forward. I succeeded in making the sport known a little more in Quebec. If I can inspire young girls to practice my sport, I think that’s really good. With the good year we had, I think it helps to grow our sport. »

With her season now over, Laurie Blouin does not intend to immediately put her board away. She will spend a few days in Europe before heading to Whistler to take advantage of the spring conditions in British Columbia.

Also in action at Silvaplana, Francis Jobin (10 points) took 15and rank in the men’s event, just behind Maple Leaf teammate Cameron Spalding (20 points).

Norwegian Markus Kleveland (91.60 points) was crowned at the end of the competition. He was joined on the podium by his compatriot Mons Roisland (90.20 points) and by the Australian Valentino Guseli (89.40 points).
