Snow squalls expected in the southwest of the province on Sunday

Visibility “could be suddenly reduced” on roads in the southwest of the province on Sunday, due to heavy snowfall combined with gusts, warns Environment Canada.

This warning is in effect for this afternoon, as well as early evening, specifies Félix Biron, meteorologist at the federal agency. “Regarding the targeted regions, we start from the south of Témiscamingue to go towards the Outaouais, including Mont-Laurier. »

“Before getting behind the wheel, it would be important for people to consult local forecasts and warnings to find out whether or not their area is affected by these snow squalls,” he says.

This same low pressure system which affects southwestern Quebec should move during the evening towards the Laurentians, then travel to Quebec and Beauce. “These areas could therefore have sometimes heavy snow showers, but it is possible that we do not have the precise criteria to obtain squalls,” explains Mr. Biron.

Regarding snow accumulations, Montreal and Gatineau have already reached 3 and 6 centimeters respectively. “We expect around 5 centimeters more during the day for these two places,” underlines the meteorologist.

After a white Sunday, the sun should shine again over most of the province at the start of the week, says Félix Biron.

In the greater Montreal area, the mercury could drop to -17 degrees on Tuesday morning, he adds. “So we would potentially have cold weather to start the week, but nothing extreme compared to winters before. »
