Snow removal | Concerns about a possible lack of trucks

Municipal officials are concerned about a lack of trucks for snow removal this winter, after service breakdowns last year.

Municipal services revealed Tuesday that operations had to be interrupted during the last winter period because the supplier Transvrac was unable to offer enough vehicles to transport the snow to the depots.

This information was made public with the conclusion of a new contract with Transvrac for snow removal in eight districts.

“Transvrac experienced certain issues last year, which led to interruptions in loading snow in certain boroughs which were forced to find trucks and labor,” reported Dominic Perri, elected in Saint-Léonard and president of the Contract Review Commission.

The mayor of Pierrefonds-Roxboro, Jim Beis, argued that “this situation is problematic.” He denounced the fact that it was the boroughs which had to take responsibility for renting additional trucks themselves.

“I admit that it is worrying. We all want to have enough trucks and we will have them,” said the elected representative responsible for the file on the executive committee, Maja Vodanovic. The officials involved have been working for weeks “to ensure that each borough will have the trucks necessary for snow removal.”

The new Transvrac contract contains measures to reduce the risk of service disruption. Among other things, fewer districts will be served by this company than last year.
