Snow Parasurf | Sandrine Hamel comes back from behind and finishes third

Sandrine Hamel will leave the indoor sliding center of Landgraaf (Netherlands) with a second bronze medal in two days. Tuesday, in the second inclined slalom (LL2 category) of the Snow Parasurf World Cup, the Saint-Sauveur athlete made his best descent in the final round to climb from fourth to third place.

As was the case in Monday’s race, Dutchwoman Lisa Bunschoten was the fastest thanks to her time of 39.59 s. China’s Yanhong Geng (+2.89s) finished second, while Hamel was 3.20s behind.

The Quebecer had recorded the fourth fastest time in the initial round and she had no choice but to open the floodgates if she wanted to return to the podium as she had done on Monday by being a bronze medalist.

“I knew this was my last chance to perform and it was the motivation it took to not only beat my time, but also that of one of the Chinese,” she said. It was my best time of the week on this course. It was my last run and I had nothing left to lose, so I went for it. ”

Hamel was 20 hundredths of a second behind the Chinese Nianjia Hu, provisionally third after the first of two runs in this event where only the best time was retained. The 24-year-old Paralympian’s time of 42.79s was the second best of the final round, earning her bronze.

“(My compatriot) Lisa (DeJong, fifth of the day) and I therefore had the objective of giving everything to be able to have at least a place on the podium. ”

The next stop on the World Cup circuit will take place in Finland in about ten days. Snowboarders will find the great outdoors of Pyha after the Landgraaf indoor races to set off on a snowboard cross course.
