Snow causes power outages in several regions

Heavy snowfall caused power outages in several regions of Quebec on Sunday.

Around 9:30 a.m., Hydro-Québec reported 112,200 customers without electricity, including 49,000 in Mauricie and 27,500 in the Capitale-Nationale.

Accumulations of 15 to 25 centimeters of snow are expected over the next few hours in these areas.

North of the St. Lawrence River, winter storm warnings have been issued for the vast majority of the territory, from Tadoussac to Baie-Comeau.

Strong winds are expected to accompany heavy snowfall, which could persist through Tuesday.

“It should be noted that the accumulated snow could be heavy and sticky. This could therefore add considerable weight to structures and trees, making them more vulnerable to breakage,” warns Environment Canada.

In southern Quebec, the snow expected on Sunday should melt immediately. During the week, temperatures are expected to slightly exceed seasonal norms, oscillating between 5 and 10 degrees.
