The French had difficulty finding a train ticket on Friday July 1. For its part, the SNCF has indicated that it will not be able to add new trains for this summer.

The SNCF has about 400 TGV trains. Is it sufficient ? At the station, on the afternoon of Friday July 1, the French had difficulty finding a ticket. “It surprised me, because I am a good user of the SNCF, and in fact before, I found more places”, wonders a traveler. It is not possible to add trains. The SNCF has no reserve, and recognizes a big tension on the material. French trains have been sent to Spain, for the development of the Ouigo offer between Barcelona and Madrid.

In France, the company thought it could count on eight new trains manufactured by Alstom. They are currently unusable. The SNCF would claim 38 million euros in penalties from its manufacturer. “The SNCF realized that there were welding problems, so these trains had to go back to the workshop at Alstom”, explains Arnaud Aymé, Sia Partners transport specialist. They will therefore not be available for the summer holidays. The SNCF is also accused of having withdrawn trains from the park, or of having sent them to scrap yards.
