Faced with the influx of Ukrainian refugees in France, the SNCF is increasing initiatives to promote their travel and will in particular add a special train to a TGV Paris-Barcelona on Saturday March 12, franceinfo learned from the company. This measure will make it possible to double the transport capacity of the train. “We adapt to the evolution of the situation”, explains a spokesperson for the SNCF to franceinfo. He indicates that he has observed a growing flow towards Spain where there is a fairly large Ukrainian community.
Ukrainian refugees can already, since the beginning of the month, travel for free on the SNCF network, whatever the train: TGV, Intercités or TER. They can also take the TGV free of charge to Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom. In the specific case of the United Kingdom, Ukrainian refugees must be in possession of a residence visa.
The SNCF notes that more and more Ukrainian refugees arrive in Parisian stations, often in transit before heading to another destination. At the Gare de l’Est in Paris, they are greeted by the Red Cross, which tells them how to obtain a free ticket, on presentation of an identity document.
