On Wednesday October 26, the judicial court of Évry, in Essonne, found the SNCF guilty of “homicides and involuntary injuries”. The decision was made nine years after the Brétigny-sur-Orge train disaster in July 2013 which claimed the lives of seven people and left hundreds injured. On Wednesday October 26, the judicial court of Évry (Essonne) delivered its judgment in the trial of Brétigny. “In accordance with the requisitions of the public prosecutor, the SNCF has just been found guilty of involuntary homicide in recidivism characterized and a fine of 300,000 euros, in addition to the compensation of the victims “, reports Nathalie Perez, live from the Évry courthouse. On the other hand, justice pronounced an acquittal for the French rail network and for the former railway executive in charge at the time of maintenance.
“Recognizing the SNCF responsible for negligence which resulted in the death of seven people and more than 400 injuries, this is what the victims were waiting for. They were waiting for justice to confirm that this tragedy could be avoided“, concludes the journalist. The disaster took place nine years ago, in July 2013. The trial lasted eight weeks.
