SNCF Clermont – Paris line: All Saints’ Day is not immune to (big) delays

Some travelers still find it a joke. They are betting on the arrival time of their train and hope to be on time for work this Tuesday morning. It will be anyway with very little sleep and a night spent partly on the train. The last three Intercités between Clermont and Paris suffered significant delays, due to a power failure near Fontainebleau, probably a break in the catenary. Trains loaded for the return of the great weekend of All Saints.

  • Train n ° 5982, the most affected: it left Clermont at 5.37 p.m., 5 minutes late and struck a wild boar between Gien and Briare. A first incident which caused an hour and a half of delay. Before the power failure that blocked the train in the middle of the line.
  • Train n ° 5984: it left Clermont at 6:32 pm. He was stopped at Moret-Veneux-Les-Sablons station, behind the first intercity. It is announced in Paris at the same time as the previous train.

SNCF teams do not seem able to repair the failure. The decision was therefore taken to transport a suburban train, which was parked in Melun, to complete the trip.. It had to be placed at the height of the first train to allow the transhipment of passengers. A complicated operation in the middle of the track, with a very important height between the step and the ground. Then the train must pick up the passengers of the second train in Moret, which should be easier, before turning around and heading back to Paris.

At least 5 hours late

If all goes well it takes about 40 minutes for this final journey, in a suburban train much less comfortable than Corail cars, as old as they are, and without space for luggage. Arrival is estimated around 3 a.m., which would be 6 hours late for the 5982 and 5 hours for the 5984.

  • Train N ° 5990: it left Clermont at 7:32 pm. It was apparently hijacked by Bourges and Vierzon, which would make it arrive around 2:30 am, 3:30 am late.

The trains will not arrive at Bercy but at Gare de Lyon. Then travelers will have to find a solution to reach their final destination, not sure that there are enough taxis, even paid by the SNCF, for everyone.

Still disturbances this Tuesday morning

And tonight’s problem will have repercussions on traffic this Tuesday morning. In the direction Clermont – Paris, it is hoped that the repair is made so that the trains can circulate normally again. This does not only concern the Intercités but also the trains of the R line of the Transilien and the TER Bourgogne – Franche-Comté.

In the direction Paris – Clermont, trains arriving late must ensure the morning trains to Auvergne. The first train of the morning, that of 7:01, is already announced from the Gare de Lyon. It will leave a quarter of an hour late to allow travelers who normally arrive at Bercy to reach the nearby Gare de Lyon.
