Taxi drivers plan to carry out a snail operation on Monday January 29 in several cities in France, the France Bleu network reported on Sunday. They are demanding a withdrawal of the agreement between their profession and the National Health Insurance Fund (Cnam) on medical transport.

According to France Bleu Gironde, between 500 and 800 taxis are expected on the Bordeaux ring road on Monday morning. The Gironde taxis will be joined by their colleagues from Charente-Maritime, Landes, Lot-et-Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées and Pyrénées-Atlantiques before leaving on the ring road. After this action, the taxis will meet in the city center, at the Prefecture where a delegation from each department must be received from 3 p.m.

France Bleu Sud Lorraine speaks for its part of around a hundred taxis expected this Monday in Greater Nancy. The drivers will come from Meuse, Vosges and Meurthe-et-Moselle. Disturbances are to be expected from 9 a.m. The snail operation will join the Cpam where a delegation will be received. The convoys will then leave towards the prefecture.

The cities of Lyon, Marseille, Toulon, Cannes and Nice concerned

Snail operations are also planned in Toulon and Marseille from 7 a.m. France Bleu Provence speaks of 800 taxis expected in Marseille out of the 1,700 in Bouches-du-Rhône. The motorways affected are the A7, the A55 and the A50. Taxis will again go to the prefecture. Static gatherings are also planned at the TGV stations of Aix-en-Provence and Marseille St-Charles and should complicate access.

In Toulon, already blocked last Wednesday, three meeting points are announced Monday morning from 6:30 a.m. The taxis will go in procession to the Cpam in Toulon. In Nîmes, a rally is planned for 6:30 a.m. this Monday, at the Costières stadium. The convoy, from 7 a.m., plans to reach Montpellier, report France Bleu Gard Lozère and France Bleu Hérault.

Operations also planned in Cannes, a first convoy will leave around 7 a.m. Monday from the Cannes Mandelieu aerodrome. Vehicles will proceed at a walking pace on the A8 motorway towards the prefecture, via the “Airport” exit, reports France Bleu Azur. In Nice, at the same time, from the Saint-Georges district another procession will roll slowly on the A8 motorway from Nice Est, to the same “Airport” exit, in the direction of the Alpes-Maritimes departmental administrative center. The two convoys will converge towards the Cpam headquarters, avenue du Roi-Robert, via Mathis route.

In Lyon, at the call of trade union organizations, a taxi demonstration is planned for Monday in the form of snail operations and filtering points, announces the prefecture. Disturbances are to be expected from 9 a.m. in particular from Limonest on the M6 metropolitan road, the northern ring road of Lyon (Portes de Valvert, Vaise, Rochecardon, Saint Clair) and the ring road. The city is already affected by an operation by farmers.

Regarding the reason for their anger, taxi drivers are worried about the new agreement between their profession and the Cnam. This agreement – published in the Official Journal at the beginning of January and which must come into force on February 1 – is not yet detailed but it notably modifies the prices for covering patient transport costs. Today, a taxi driver made a “discount” of 20% of the cost of the social security race. Taxis do not know what discounts or prices they will apply for these convoys which, especially in rural areas, constitute the bulk of resources for many drivers.
