Smog warning in Montreal

A smog warning is in effect in the Montreal region due to poor air quality on Thursday.

Environment Canada issued this warning just before 6:30 a.m., while the federal agency predicted “high concentrations of pollutants” in the city’s air.

The City of Montreal’s Air Quality Monitoring Network, for its part, reported an air quality index (AQI) of 53 around 9 a.m. This is considered “poor” when the AQI is 50 or more.

Environment Canada reminds that “smog mainly affects asthmatic children and people with respiratory or heart diseases. They are therefore recommended to avoid strenuous physical activities outdoors until the smog warning is lifted.”

Furthermore, on Wednesday, the City of Quebec banned until further notice the use of all “solid fuel appliances”, such as wood stoves, due to the deterioration of air quality in the area. region.
