SM Caen – Vladislav Molchan: “I know few Russian players who have made a career in Europe.”

Twenty months after his arrival at SM Caen Vladislav Molchan is fluent in our language and the Russian central defender responds to the interview in very good French.

It’s an easy language modestly downplays the 21-year-old. If you want to learn Russian it’s impossible (laughs). It’s easier for me because I live here, I’ve always listened to French. I think it’s very important to speak a lot of languages because that’s life. You never know where you’re going to live (laughs).” Vladislav applies all the more to learn French that he wishes to obtain a second passport to facilitate his career in Europe and to live there.

The central defender of SM Caen believes that it is not so difficult to live abroad far from his family “because I left my family at 18 and I’m used to living alone. Of course I miss my parents but that’s the life of football.”

His grandparents are stranded in Ukraine

Vladislav Molchan does not wish to give his feelings on the war in Ukraine nor to comment on it except to say that “nobody knows the truth“. If his parents and his sister live in Saint Petersburg, his grandparents are under the bombs in Sloviansk, in the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine.

“It’s not easy, my family is on both sides of this situation. I don’t know how to put it but in the Modern World, this situation is not possible. My Grandparents are stuck there in a dangerous situation. They’re old and can’t move from there. I talk to them to find out about their situation and how they’re doing.”

Vladislav Molchan is continuing his recovery after his cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee last April. He normally hopes to resume training in September before resuming competition with the reserve in National 2 by October. His debut in Normandy has so far been discreet with two appearances in the Ligue 2 group without playing and thirteen games with the Caen reserve.

It’s okay to go step by step. A great career doesn’t necessarily mean going fast, it means progressing. It’s my first big injury but it’s not too hard mentally because everyone is helping me. I work a lot and I know that I will come back stronger.”

I hope to have my chance soon because I want to show everyone that I have the level of Ligue 2

If he left Russia and his city of Saint Petersburg in December 2020, it was to approach a demanding championship where the Russians are few.

“I want to improve my career because football is very different in France and in Russia. I’m lucky to be here because I like the style of French football. There are big differences. I see for example that the level of Ligue 2 is equivalent to that of the first Russian League. It is even perhaps a little stronger. And the National 2 championship is a bit like the second League in Russia.

I hope to have my chance soon because I want to show everyone that I have the level of Ligue 2. It is very important for me because I am Russian and I do not know many players who have made a career in Europe.”
