This is the new trend in supermarkets. When paying, the “BLA bla boxes” are developing everywhere in France. The concept invites consumers to take their time when taking out their wallet to possibly chat with the hostess.
At the supermarket checkout, we take our time. Time to chat with the hostess when paying for her groceries. The objective is to re-humanise the supermarket. For some customers, it is sometimes the only outing of the day. The “blabla boxes” is a concept that comes from the Netherlands and is tested in several brands.
In the era of automation and contactless, this trend also gives meaning and time to voluntary checkout hostesses. “I like this contact with the client, to take his time, to discuss”, says Salima, cashier. In a supermarket in Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), these slower checkouts have been adopted. Behind her carpet, Marie-Christine, cashier, already has her regulars. The health crisis has reminded major brands of the importance of contact with the customer.
