Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot after leaving a government meeting

The Slovak Prime Minister has been hospitalized, according to local media. The shooter was arrested by the police. President Zuzana Caputova strongly condemned the attack.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot and injured after a meeting of the country’s cabinet of ministers in Handlova, local media reported on Wednesday (May 15). The Prime Minister was hospitalized, reports the Slovak channel Denniknwho adds that the suspect was arrested.

President Zuzana Caputova strongly condemned the attack on Facebook “brutal” against the Prime Minister, and wishes him “lots of strength in this critical moment to recover from the attack”. European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen also “strongly condemns the despicable attack” against Robert Fico. “Such acts of violence have no place in our society and weaken democracy”adds the manager on X.
