Former Quebec Nordiques star Marian Stastny sold his golf course and hotel to two Slovak investors on Thursday, learned The duty. Valued at 6.2 million dollars, the transaction allows the eldest of the famous siblings of hockey players to dispose of land he had tried unsuccessfully to sell in 2018.
One of the new owners, Miroslav Kot, is presented as “a friend of the family” and a golf enthusiast by the lawyer of the Stastny clan, Chantal Bouchard, joined by The duty. The businessman co-founded the HardWood investment fund, which develops and manages a network of veterinary care in Central Europe; it also works in the development of industrial buildings.
The acquisition was made through a Quebec company whose shareholders are made up of Eskom and Geomatix, two companies that have a storefront in Bratislava, the former capital of Czechoslovakia from where the former hockey player is native.
Marian Stastny marked the sporting history of the Quebec capital by joining her two brothers, Peter and Anton, in 1981, who “went west” to the Nordiques a year earlier. During this decade, the three brothers formed one of the most prominent lines in the National Hockey League, when the rivalry between the Montreal Canadiens and the Quebec Nordiques was at its height.
Mr. Stastny’s assets are located in Lévis, on agricultural land covering nearly 95 hectares. This is where an 18-hole golf course and recreational green spaces — including a driving range — were built in the early 1990s. In the following years, a hotel was added.
The new owners want to “revive” the golf course managed by Mr. Stastny and his wife, who will continue to live on the site.
Since the closure of the hotel in 2018, there have been many legal setbacks related to golf. That year, the former hockey player had signed a deed of sale worth $5.75 million: his properties were then to pass into the hands of Daniel Proulx, a businessman from Blainville. However, no payment having been made by the latter, the transaction was terminated in 2020.
Mr. Proulx then told the Montreal Journal refusing to pay the Stastny clan due to a legal battle with the Beaudet group, a company that manages numerous golf courses.
