Slopestyle: Maxence Parrot wins gold in Beijing

Quebecer Maxence Parrot won gold and fellow Canadian Mark McMorris won bronze in slopestyle at the Beijing Olympics on Monday.

Parrot, a silver medalist from the 2018 Olympics, secured the victory with his second run, which earned him 90.96 points.

McMorris (88.53) couldn’t beat Chinese Su Yiming’s score (88.70) and completed the podium.

Quebecer, Sébastien Toutant, silver medalist at the Worlds in 2021, finished in 9th position thanks to his third run (54.00 points). He crashed on the last jump of his last run and couldn’t improve.

After the first run, the three Canadians were in the top-7, however, only Parrot was virtually on the podium thanks to a jump of 79.86 points.

The second run was more successful for the Canadians. Parrot completed its descent of 90.96 points and McMorris moved up to 4th position (80.85 points).

The third run was the affair of McMorris, who was the penultimate to start. He earned his best mark to beat American Redmond Gerard at the finish line.

Gerard, gold medalist in the event at the Pyeongchang Games in 2018, finished at the foot of the podium. His first run put him in the lead, but he was unable to beat that result.
