The Montreal soccer club of the Super League North hired Robert Rositoiu as head coach on Wednesday.
Originally from Romania but based in Montreal for 20 years, Rositoiu is well known in the world of women’s soccer, having won three trophies with AS Blainville in Ligue1 Québec, including the national interprovincial championship in 2022.
“It’s very exciting to be able to count on the expertise of a coach like Robert, who is appreciated by his peers and the athletes he has supervised,” said Marinette Pichon, the club’s sports director. “His in-depth knowledge of the local talent pool, combined with his values and playing principles, will allow us to lay a solid foundation to ensure the success and growth of our future team.”
Alongside his successes in Ligue1 Québec, Rositoiu has held key roles in high-level structures.
He worked at CF Montreal for five years. He also recently held the position of U16 head coach in MLS Next Pro at the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy. Rositoiu was also part of the Canadian U17 Men’s National Technical Team during the Canada-Brazil Series in 2023 and he contributed to the development of young talents for Soccer Quebec.
“It’s a huge honour to join the Montreal Super League North club and be able to contribute to its development,” said Rositoiu. “I look forward to putting my experience and passion to work for this team and building an environment in which each player can thrive and perform.”
Rositoiu’s appointment was the result of a meticulous selection process led by Pichon, with the support of Nick de Santis.
In addition to the identity of its head coach, the Montreal team revealed on Wednesday that it will establish its headquarters at the Bois-de-Boulogne Sports Center in Laval, which will benefit from major renovations.
In addition, the club will launch its season ticket deposit campaign on Thursday. Fans who want to obtain a season ticket for the inaugural season will be asked to pay a $50 deposit.
A “high-profile” event will take place on October 8 to unveil the team’s name and branding.
The Northern Super League will feature six teams for its inaugural season: Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Halifax. The league will officially begin operations in April 2025, with a 25-game regular season schedule followed by playoffs.
