Slight increase in the number of collective refugee sponsorship program files

The Legault government will slightly increase the number of files in its collective sponsorship program. According to a publication in the Official Gazette, 825 requests will be accepted as of January 18, compared to 750 at the time of the last filing, an increase of 75 cases.

During the last filing, the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) had only authorized groups of individuals (2 to 5 people) to submit a file and had suspended the process, in a decree expiring on 1er November, sponsorship organizations due to fraud allegations.

Most organizations will again be authorized to submit sponsorship applications, but around 20 of them will remain suspended, according to Radio-Canada.

Thus, whether they are in Montreal or in the region, the so-called “experienced” sponsoring organizations (church, mosques, NPOs, etc.) who have been given the green light will be able to submit a maximum of 200 files, just like the so-called “organizations”. regular ”. As for groups of 2 to 5 people, they will be entitled to a maximum of 425 files.

As was the case during the last filing period, which ended on May 5, the files will be chosen by drawing lots under the supervision of an external auditor and in the presence of witnesses.

In addition, three permanent immigration pilot programs set up last year will also see their thresholds increased, going from 500 to 600 places for the next year. These are programs aimed at allowing temporary foreign workers to establish themselves permanently if they are employed as orderlies, in the field of food processing or artificial intelligence, technologies of the information and visual effects.
