A homeless New Brunswick man narrowly escaped tragedy after being thrown into a garbage truck that came to collect waste from a trash can where he had taken shelter to protect himself from the cold.
It was the organization The Humanity Project, based in Moncton, which shared the video of the event on its Facebook account on Friday to show “the harsh reality of homelessness.”
“When you take people’s tents, sleeping bags and all their belongings without providing them with safe and adequate housing, they are forced to sleep in places like dumpsters to escape the cold,” the association said. in its publication.
In the footage, it is possible to see the man swinging towards the truck’s dumpster as the trash can is picked up and lifted into the air. His cries allowed the driver of the machine to be arrested.
The homeless man had a narrow escape by being thrown into the cardboard dumpster and not the garbage dumpster, where the waste is immediately crushed.
“With the cold weather setting in and people being forced to find shelter where they can, we are asking all garbage truck drivers to please check dumpsters and shake them out before dumping them “, underlined The Humanity Project.
The organization mentioned that such a tragedy already occurred in April 2020, when a person was picked up by a garbage truck and left at the landfill.
