Alex Pietrangelo will have a hearing before the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Thursday after the Vegas Golden Knights defenseman slashed Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl during a game the day before. .




The incident happened near the right face-off circle in Golden Knights territory, with 27 seconds left in the game that ended 4-1 in favor of the Oilers at Rogers Place on Wednesday night.

Draisaitl, who leads the Stanley Cup Playoffs scoring column with 13 goals and five assists in 10 games, had just thrown the puck deep in Golden Knights territory and was following the play when he received the Pietrangelo’s baton.

The Golden Knights defenseman was given a major penalty and a game misconduct on the streak, though Draisaitl was able to get up and get back to the Oilers bench on his own. However, he did not make another appearance on the ice thereafter.

Pietrangelo has never been suspended by the NHL Department of Safety so far.
