Skriniar overwhelmed, Donnarumma not helped, Zaire-Emery lonely… The Parisians’ notes after the disaster against Newcastle

At the end of a failed European evening, Paris Saint-Germain lost heavily on the Magpies pitch on Wednesday.

A completely missed appointment. After its victory against Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain lost on Wednesday October 4, without ever succeeding in destabilizing a Newcastle team which returned to Europe for the first time in 20 years (4-1). As since the match against Marseille in the championship (4-0 victory), Luis Enrique had opted for an offensive PSG with four attackers lined up. A choice which ultimately cost dearly, the defense being largely disrupted by the intensity of the Magpies.

Gianluigi Donnarumma: 6/10

His difficulties in the kicking game were scrutinized. But under fire, the Italian kept his calm, minimizing ball losses and long clearances according to the precepts of Luis Enrique. In the first two actions which hit the mark for Newcastle, he made three reflex saves, before giving in to the inertia of his defenders. A hand fault on the third and the unstoppable strike from Fabian Schär (90th + 1) however tarnish his good record over the entire 90 minutes.

Achraf Hakimi: 3/10

His runs towards the center when bringing out the balls allowed his team to create a few rare chances but he also missed a slew of easy passes, as evidenced by his 26 lost balls (match record).

Marquinhos: 3/10

Author of a fairly calm start despite the opponent’s undermining work, Marquinhos collapsed on a messy restart from the left, giving the English the opening score (16th). In short, the captain of a ship that sank.

Milan Skriniar: 2/10

An evening to forget for the Slovenian. Surprised by the transmissions from his partners reaching his feet, late on his interventions like the first goal where he is too far away to intervene and often beaten in aerial duels like on the second from Dan Burn (39th), Milan Skriniar has been identified by Newcastle as the weak point in the Parisian defense. Is right.

Lucas Hernandez: 4/10

The Parisian game mainly leaned to the right and yet the former Bavarian was regularly taken behind his back by a too lively Miguel Almiron. By scoring his first goal for PSG on a well-inspired run, the elder Hernandez, however, improved his copy a bit (56th).

Warren Zaire-Emery: 6/10

At 17 years old, “WZE” did his best while his colleague from the double pivot took on water. A rare Parisian to project himself forward, he had the merit of trying to sound the revolt in the first period, particularly from afar with a slippery shot (22nd). Before being rewarded for his involvement with his assist for Lucas Hernandez.

Manuel Ugarte: 3/10

We expected his high recoveries and his incessant activity, he was finally annihilated by the English pressing. The Uruguayan never managed to find his role in the middle, forgetting Sean Longstaff in the 3-0 (50th). Replaced by Vitinha (64th).

Ousmane Dembélé: 3.5/10

Criticized for his lack of accuracy in the opposing area since the start of the season, the Parisian number 10 once again missed clear opportunities (4th, 77th). In the first half, he endeavored to lend a hand to his teammates behind him, who were sorely lacking an element in the midfield. Without shining, he showed himself to be more useful than his three other attacking buddies.

Kylian Mbappé: 3/10

A dangerous entry cross for his friend “Dembouz”, another for Gonçalo Ramos before the break and nothing else. The French international went through most of the match like a ghost, without ever showing himself capable of changing its meaning.

Gonçalo Ramos: 3/10

On the bench since his last start during the defeat against Nice, the Portuguese was probably the one who had the most to gain this Wednesday. He still had to have opportunities to show himself. By dint of coming down to help with the build-up, the center forward did not weigh down in the area. Worse, a poorly negotiated ball made the goal 4-1.

Randal Kolo Muani: 2/10

For his first on the left wing, the ex-Nantes player clearly struggled. Clumsy in his movements, he only completed 60% of his passes (PSG’s worst total). Logically replaced by Bradley Barcola early in the second half (57th)which did not bring the hoped-for touch of madness.
