In the midst of a labor shortage, the New Democratic Party (NDP) and the Bloc Québécois denounce the Liberal government’s inaction on immigration, while thousands of skilled workers await their permanent residence in Quebec.
The situation has deteriorated since 2019, said deputy leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP) Alexandre Boulerice. He reacted thus to the news published in Press Wednesday which shows that permanent residence files are handled inconsistently by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
“People from all over the island of Montreal are calling on us to help them with their immigration files. We are inundated, and it is because the Liberals are not doing their job, ”he said in an email sent to Press Thursday.
A troubling situation from a human and financial point of view. “Too many families suffer from a prolonged separation, and many sectors are struggling to find qualified workers,” he added.

“Some of these applicants have now been established in Quebec for years, without news and kept in the dark about their permanent residence file,” denounced Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe, Bloc Québécois spokesperson for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. The Bloc Québécois deplores the “delays” and denounces a “total dysfunction” within Immigration Canada, he also specified.
“Immigration Canada must imperatively accelerate its digital transition and invest in the hiring of staff, at the very least capable of communicating in French,” said Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe.
