In ski resorts, attendance is not weakening. However, the lack of snow has resulted in an increase in accidents. Report in Haute-Savoie.

The Northern Alps are experiencing record attendance for the month of February. The occupancy rate of the Les Gets resort (Haute-Savoie) has been flirting with 90% for three weeks. And even if the snow cover is far from dreaming, it satisfies customers who don’t change their habits. However, the lack of snow, the thaw and overcrowding lead to an increase in accidents on the slopes. Angelique Rame, snowboarder, paid the price. She leaves for the Paris region with a severe wrist fracture.

95% of injured treated on site

Dr Thierry Dewaele, mountain doctor, says: “In our office, we saw around sixty traumatic injuries on average per day. […] These two weeks have been a bit of an apocalypse.” Mountain doctors treat 95% of the injured on site. 5% are referred to the nearest hospitals. Thierry Dewaele lists many cases of people who “get into it at high speed on well-maintained tracks”. Tracks that have become very well maintained but overcrowded boulevards. It is therefore necessary to respect the essential rules of the skier.
