Reflections on a Life-Altering Fall
Reflecting on the harrowing events of January 13, when he experienced a severe crash at the finish line in Wengen, Kilde recalls feeling utterly drained by the end of the race. “I was completely empty,” he stated, describing how he was caught off guard by exhaustion that day. “It happened so fast, yet I felt as if time slowed down.” In the aftermath of the crash, he lay on the slope, battling severe pain and disorientation, but he remained conscious through the chaos. “I knew I was in capable hands, which helped me remain calm despite the pain,” he added.
Facing a daunting diagnosis that included severed muscles and nerves, Kilde was overwhelmed by uncertainty. “In those initial months, I questioned whether I would ever ski again,” he confessed. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, even amidst life-threatening injuries. “I’ve always understood the risks, but it’s part of the sport I love,” he remarked.
As he looks ahead, Kilde acknowledges the lessons learned from his experiences. He understands the importance of listening to his body and committing to a full recovery before racing again. “I’ve learned that if I’m not feeling 100% fit, I simply won’t race,” he stated resolutely.
