It’s the end of the season in most ski resorts. In Chambéry, in Savoie, volunteers are mobilizing to pick up the waste accumulated under the snow. This represents tens of kilos of rubbish.

At the foot of the ski area ofAreches-Beaufort (Savoy)Valentin and Coralie roam the snow front looking for rubbish. Both seasonal this winter, they volunteered to pick up objects thrown away or lost by holidaymakers. “We practiced the slopes all winter in our free time, so it was normal that today we participate”explains Coralie Royer. The 60 volunteers of the association “mountain Riders” filled dozens of trash bags in just a few hours with the waste found on the slopes, before sorting it one by one.

For more than 20 years, “mountain Riders” organizes pick-ups like this, in many resorts in the Alps, with one objective: achieve zero waste in the mountains by 2030. To Areches-Beaufortit was the Tourist Office that called on the association to help protect its 100-hectare estate. 75 kilos of waste were collected in one morning. In total, around twenty collections are planned in the resorts of the Alps by the start of the summer.
