Ski lifts: non-conformities detected at Stoneham Station

The Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ), which carried out inspections of all the ski lifts at the Stoneham tourist resort from December 14 to 20, found non-compliances and the necessary corrections were notified to the RCR operator.

The latter has 30 days from December 22 to make the requested corrections. The non-conformities identified do not pose a risk to the safety and integrity of persons, the statement said.

The devices can therefore remain in service during the corrective work. As for the Mont-Sainte-Anne station, the RBQ is still waiting for the operator, who is also an RCR, to show it that it meets the conditions of the order in order to put its aerial lifts back into service.

Mont-Sainte-Anne

“The RBQ reiterates that the reopening of the five aerial lifts of Mont-Sainte-Anne will depend on the rate of fulfillment of the requirements set out in the order sent to RCR after the fall of a gondola (…), December 10, 2022 . »

Remember that the RBQ ordered the lifts to be stopped to ensure public safety and that the operator must comply with the following requirements in particular:

  • RCR must submit a training plan to the RBQ for approval, then ensure that personnel are trained and that they know, understand and apply the procedures and operating rules.
  • RCR must perform the moving parts check on all detachable aerial lift attachments.
  • RCR must provide an expert’s report to explain the malfunction of the equipment at the L’Étoile filante lift and apply the recommendations.
  • RCR must provide a safety certificate signed by an engineer for the detachable aerial lifts as well as for L’Étoile filante.

These documents have not yet been submitted to the RBQ.

Mandated experts

Earlier this week, the Mont-Sainte-Anne station said that a work plan has been established to meet the requirements of the RBQ as soon as possible. RCR commissioned independent experts who were deployed in the field.

The work of snowmaking and preparation of the slopes continues in order to ensure that no delay is taken, assured the management.

“As part of the ongoing investigation and verification procedures with the appointed experts, the resort’s aerial lifts could be put into operation punctually over the next few days. This operation is authorized and respects the detailed and safe working protocol agreed with the authorities,” it added.
