Ski Cross World Cup | Britanny Phelan collects money in Georgia

Britanny Phelan took second place on the podium after the women’s grand final held early Saturday morning at the Ski Cross World Cup in Bakouriani, Georgia.


Fourth at the start of the final race, the Mont-Tremblant athlete quickly repositioned herself behind her teammate Marielle Thompson to take provisional second place.

The duo then gradually increased their lead and was never worried, collecting their second Canadian double in a row after the one obtained in Alleghe, Italy, last weekend. Once again, it was Frenchwoman Marielle Berger Sabbatel who completed the podium.

“I feel good on my skis right now and it’s nice to be part of the finals, then to get on the podium. I feel like all the pieces are falling into place and it’s cool to see that the work is paying off,” Phelan told the International Ski Federation (FIS) after the medal ceremony.

Also in action on the women’s side, Hannah Schmidt was unable to start her quarter-final race and she is in 11the rank of the ranking. Among the men, his brother Jared was eliminated in his second race of the day and he also finished in 11e place.

The Swede David Mobaerg won the men’s final ahead of the German Florian Wilmsmann and the Swiss Alex Fiva.

Seventeenth of the day, the British-Columbian Reece Howden still occupies the provisional first place in the ranking for obtaining the crystal globe in ski cross with 492 points. He is followed in order by Fiva (471), Wilmsmann (429) and Schmidt (412).

On the women’s side, Marielle Thompson now sits at the top of the provisional ranking with 712 points ahead of Marielle Berger Sabbatel (650) and Hannah Schmidt (639). Just behind, Britanny Phelan has 554 points thanks to her fourth medal of the season, a third silver.

A second World Cup start is planned for Sunday at the Bakouriani station and all the Quebecers competing have obtained their pass for the elimination rounds.
