Ski cross | Silver medals and early exits in Arosa

While two of their compatriots ended their evening with a silver medal around their necks, Hannah Schmidt and her brother Jared had a short outing at the night event of the Ski Cross World Cup in Arosa, Switzerland, on Monday .

Marielle Thompson and Reece Howden, both of British Columbia, finished second in the women’s and men’s finals.

On what could be described as a sprint course, Hannah Schmidt reached the quarter-final round where she took the fourth and last place in her wave. Provisionally second after the first obstacles at the start, she quickly slipped two places at the halfway point after two consecutive jumps.

The course of about thirty seconds could not allow her to close the gap that separated her from the first two who reached the next round. She finished at 15e rank in the final classification.

Recall that a week earlier, the skier from Mont-Tremblant had won the first World Cup medal of her career, a silver, in Val Thorens, France.

After making a stellar start in the final, Swede Sandra Naeslund was never worried until the bottom of the course and maintains her immaculate record of three victories in three World Cup starts this season. The world champion and Olympic champion has not lost a single World Cup since December 2021, she who is now eleven straight wins on the circuit.

On the side of Jared Schmidt, 26e of the day, he quickly found himself fourth in his descent of the round of 16, deported to the outside in the first corner. The delay was already too great to attempt a comeback and he was eliminated, like his compatriot Carson Cook, third in the same wave.

Gold went to Frenchman Terence Tchiknavorian.

Hannah and Jared Schmidt had placed 13 respectivelye and 15e qualifying on Sunday.

The next stop on the World Cup circuit will be in Innichen, Italy, starting December 20.
