Ski cross: bronze medals for Canadians Reece Howden and Tiana Gairns

Canadians Reece Howden and Tiana Gairns won bronze at the Ski Cross World Cup on Sunday.

Howden, of Cultus Lake, BC, finished behind Japan’s Ryo Sugai and Sweden’s David Mobaerg, who took silver and gold respectively.

Howden, 24, remains atop the overall men’s standings with 596 points, 57 ahead of second-placed Mobaerg.

Gairns crossed the finish line ahead of her compatriot Marielle Thompson, in the women’s grand final.

Switzerland’s Fanny Smith took gold, while France’s Jade Grillet-Aubert won silver.

Thompson is third overall with 524 points, behind Smith (541) and Sweden’s Sandra Naeslund (900).
