Skeleton World Cup | Canadian Mirela Rahneva finishes 2nd in Germany

(Winterberg) Canada’s Mirela Rahneva started the new year by winning a silver medal at the Skeleton World Cup event in Winterberg, Germany on Friday.


The two-time Olympian clocked a combined time of one minute 57.24 seconds, securing a 13e career podium in the World Cup.

Rahneva looked destined for her second victory of the season after posting the best time in the first run, clocking 58.60 seconds.

A small error near the bottom of the track on her last run was enough for her to finish second behind Dutch Kimberley Bos, who set the day’s best time with 58.50 seconds in this second run.

Bos edged the Canadian by six hundredths of a second, posting a winning time of 1:57.18.

Germany’s Hannah Neise slipped to the bronze medal with a time of 1:5734.
