It will certainly be one of the Parisian cultural events of 2023. The Louvre Museum will present for six months some sixty masterpieces from one of the greatest Italian museums: the Capodimonte Museum in Naples. A partnership on an unprecedented scale.

After its closure for works, the Capodimonte Museum will transfer its greatest masterpieces to the Louvre. From June 2023, we will be able to admire Danaea painting on canvas produced by Titian’s workshop in 1554, or antea, this portrait of a young woman attributed to Parmesan cheese. These famous paintings are present in many history books. But visitors will also be able to appreciate works by Caravaggio and Masaccio or two large preparatory drawings by Raphael and Michelangelo for the decorations of the Vatican.

These masterpieces will dialogue with those of the Louvre, notably in the Grande Galerie, whose hanging will be redesigned for the occasion. In the Chapel room, sculptures and works of art will bear witness to the richness and diversity of the Neapolitan museum’s collections, with for example a spectacular piece: the Farnese Cassette, in silver, rock crystal and lapis lazuli.

This presentation allows the Louvre to reconnect with major events. It offers tremendous visibility to the Capodimonte museum, little known to the general public.
