From seven, on June 16, the Hauts de France went to twelve proven cases of monkeypox. The latest bulletin from Public Health France, dated June 21, reports 277 confirmed cases in France, and therefore twelve in our region.
Six people are currently being treated for this pathology, indicates the CHU of Amiens, confirming information from our colleagues from Courrier Picard.
“In France, infections with this virus are subject to long-term monitoring through the mandatory reporting system. Given the current alerts, monitoring of these infections is reinforced”, specifies Public Health France
The institute also recalls that “monkey pox is an infectious disease caused by an Orthopoxvirus. This zoonotic disease is usually transmitted to humans in the forest areas of Central and West Africa by wild rodents or primates, but human-to-human transmission is also possible, particularly within the family home or in a healthcare setting.
“The disease is more serious in children and in immunocompromised people. It can be complicated by superinfection of skin lesions or by respiratory, digestive, ophthalmological or neurological damage. At this stage, the cases reported in Europe are mostly mild. , and there are no reported deaths.”
