six months after the collapse of the building, life resumes in the Saint-Rémy district

The people of Dieppe always remember the collapse of a building at the intersection of rue des Bains and rue Saint-Rémy last October. “It was like an earthquake, a house of cards that collapsed, we heard a squealing, a creaking and everything collapsed. We still have dust there on our windows, we haven’t cleaned it yet, it was impressive“, remembers Karim, a resident of the district.

“The neighborhood is coming back to life”

Six months later, the streets have been unblocked, the traders have returned and the inhabitants of the district are smiling again. “It is an important axis here, it allows to go to the casino, in the restaurant street. We, the Saint-Rémy district is above all the district of bars“, emphasizes Karim.

And yet a restaurant rue des Bains, Atsika, was under construction when the building collapsed. “I feel like what was a curse to begin with becomes a blessing because ultimately people are curious about what’s going on on this street now that it’s open, what’s“, explains Kévin Jao, the manager.

Sitting on one of her tables, Nadine. She works at the Côté Sable boutique, a ready-to-wear boutique. “We had to rent a room in the Mercure hotel for a few months. But now, since we’ve been back on the street, I’ve seen customers I didn’t see anymore, the neighborhood is coming back to life“, she explains. This collapse is only a distant memory.
