Six licensed athletes in the Vosges selected for the Beijing Olympics

The official list of the French Olympic team has fallen, we know the names of the athletes who will take part in the Winter Olympics in Beijing at the beginning of February. Eight Vosgiens, including six graduates in the department, are retained.

First Olympics for Fabien Claude

Among them, of course, there is Clement Noel, originally from Remiremont and now licensed in Val d’Isère, who will compete in his second Olympic Games in alpine skiing. The Bassurois Fabien-Claude will also be on the trip, to take part in the biathlon, just like his brother Florent who will compete in the events under the colors of Belgium.

Always with the gentlemen, Adrian Backscheider will be on the starting line in cross-country skiing. The Messin is licensed to Gérardmer, he will play his third Olympic Games, four years after winning a bronze medal in Pyeongchang. Finally the 25-year-old French skier Antoine Gerard, specialist in Nordic combined and licensed at Ventron, will be there.

Three Vosges sportswomen selected

Among the ladies, La Bressaude Paula Botet, 21, is selected for the first time in her career for the Olympic Games in biathlon. However, she should be one of the replacements. Cross-country skiing Delphine Claudel, also licensed at La Bresse, will try to do better than her last Olympic participation, in 2018: she came 12th in the 4 x 5 relay, and 57th in 10 free kilometers. The Deodatienne Julia Clear, as for her, licensed at the Xonrupt ski club, signs her return to the Olympic Games, for her second participation after Sochi in 2014 in the ski jumping events.

The Winter Olympics will be held from February 4 to 10.
