Six elected officials from the Carhaix region (Finistère), including the town’s mayor, will be questioned in the case of suspected violence and kidnapping by defenders of the Carhaix hospital last September, France Bleu Breizh Izel reported on Thursday, July 18.
The elected officials will be “interviewed under police custody”. Christian Troadec, the mayor of Carhaix, and five other elected officials from the area (municipal deputies for sports, social affairs and culture) have been summoned to the Quimper police station from 25 July. For the mayor of Carhaix, these summonses are a “real denial of democracy”.
In May, around ten defenders of the Carhaix hospital, including several union members, were summoned to the Quimper police station under the police custody regime following the occupation of the premises of the regional health agency (ARS) in Quimper in September 2023 and the complaints filed in October by the Brest-Carhaix University Hospital. The ten demonstrators had been summoned for “kidnapping and violence in a group against a person charged with a public service mission”. These police custody cases led to demonstrations in the streets of Quimper, in support of those accused.
On September 14, defenders of the emergency room at Carhaix hospital invaded the ARS for several hours and prevented the director general of the ARS and the director of the CHRU from leaving.
