The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Department says it is investigating after six bodies were found Thursday afternoon in a swampy area near the community in Montérégie, not far from the U.S. border across New State. York.
Police said their marine unit is continuing to search the area with assistance from the Coast Guard and the Hogansburg Akwesasne Fire Department.
Akwesasne Mohawk Police said in a statement that they have requested assistance from the Sûreté du Québec and Ontario Provincial Police air support units.
The cause of death has yet to be determined, said police who are also trying to identify the bodies and their status in Canada.
